Programs

Clip Studio Paint (paid)

I bought a perpetual license for CSP v1 a billion years ago and I'm still using it for my occasional digital painting, etc. I've heard good things about Krita as a free option.

Drawpile (free)

I pretty much only use this to draw with friends, but it works great for that. You could definitely just use it as a normal art program.

Decker (free)

It's kind of an art program (ala MacPaint or old MSPaint) and kind of a game engine. I can draw things, add interactivity and easily upload it online as a .html file. I have a seperate section for this on my site because I've been making things with it for a while.

Aseprite (paid)

I know this is supposed to be good for making game sprites and pixel art but I tend to use it for creating and editing gifs because the timeline feature is really handy.

Notepad++ (free)

Text editor with language highlighting, yippee. I try other editors sometimes but this one has been a good pal ever since I started making my own site.

Phantomake (free)

My static site generator(SSG)! I was on the same website as the person who makes this and I like the ghost mascot so I'll keep using it as long as it does what I want it to.

Freetube (free)

A way of watching youtube subscriptions without actually going to youtube. Sometimes I want to watch my little videos but I need a break from algorithmic recommendations.

Media Monkey (free)

Music and media manager for my local files (I have a lot of music from bandcamp...) I've also used Musicbee in the past and liked it.

Physical Tools

Huion Drawing Tablet

Like so many of us I fell for the appeal of the display tablet. Having two screens is really nice but these things are hard on your body in a completely different way than a flat pen tablet.

My tablet stand was made of a piece of wood from an old desk and 3D printed legs designed by a friend.

Ratta Supernote A6x

When I was looking at e-ink I liked the Supernote because one of the unique things about it is that you use a ceramic nib on a screen with a rubber coating, like a hard pen nib digging into paper.

I like it for notekeeping, doodling and reading. Apparently you can plug it into a computer and use it as a pen table too but I haven't had much of a reason to experiment with that yet.
